REM is the stage of sleep during which we have the greatest number and most intense “daydreams”. It is the phase in which the activity of our neurons most closely resembles conscious brain activity. These daydreams reflect our projections, fantasies, and hopes. But not only do we dream when we sleep, we also dream while awake by conjuring up — both consciously and unconsciously — illusions that reflect our private hopes and desires. Our life, in large part, is determined by the dreams from our subconscious. REM attempts to capture the moment at which the subconscious dream materializes into a conscious image, the brief period of time in which dream and reality are the same thing
